Use
only the best quality ingredients.
Brand name liquors, fresh juices, etc. are a necessary
and integral part of a perfect cocktail. It's not a matter of quantity,
but of quality! The best cocktails are made from no more than three
ingredients and only in the rarest cases is a cocktail improved by combining
many ingredients.
Precise
knowledge of the ingredients.
What goes together? Which ingredients should be
handled with care? There are so-called mixing guides that show exactly
which ingredients are harmonious and which should not be shaken together.
This may be helpful to some, but of what use would such a table be to
a professional? Experienced bartenders read recipes and know whether
a combination is possible without even having tasted it.
Understanding
of the effect and "hour" of a cocktail.
Many cocktails can be categorized into groups of drinks according to
which "hour" and opportunity they are best suited to. For
example, there are aperitifs, digestifs, pick-me-up drinks, and corpse-reviver
cocktails. Cocktails can stimulate the appetite as well as one's spirits
or conclude a meal. They can refresh and enliven. They can also loosen
the tongue of the taciturn, create friendships, or help us forget our
troubles and make everything appear in a better light. A good bartender
should be aware of all this, and remember that if a cocktail is served
in an appetizing and attractive manner, it must be prepared perfectly.
